WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE NURSING HOME
For some of our elderly family members who currently reside at our local nursing homes, the stay is a few weeks. For others, the stay may last a few months. For many, however, the nursing home has become their permanent residence. Some are there for a brief course of post-surgical rehabilitation following orthopedic injuries. Others are at the nursing home for a longer period. They are there because they are mentally or physically disabled, suffering from neurological diseases like Alzheimer's or Parkinson's or the physical effects of a paralyzing stroke. NURSING HOME STAFFING - REQUIREMENTS VS. REALITY
Every nursing home resident is entitled to receive various types of nursing care for a certain number of minutes each day. The government requires that each resident have at least 45 minutes per day of treatment by a Registered Nurse (RN), 35 minutes each day from a Licensed Nurse Practitioner (LPN), and 2.6 hours a day from a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
